Steps

    Choose your serving bowl. Ice cream sundaes are delicious in any kind of container. Most common are round dishes, regular bowls, tulip sundae glasses, or plastic cups. If you are thinking about making a banana split, you may want to use a long, oval-shaped bowl.

    Create your sundae base. Place two to three generous scoops of your favorite ice cream on the bottom of the dish. Plain vanilla ice cream is a classic ice cream to use for a sundae, but you can also get creative and use an ice cream you've never even tried before.

    Drizzle sauce on top of the ice cream. The classic sundae sauces include melted hot fudge, warm caramel, or strawberry. It really helps to warm the sauces up before putting them on your sundae because they drizzle more easily onto the ice cream when they are warm. Either use a spoon to scoop the sauce onto your sundae or buy the sauces that come in a squeezable container.

    Add toppings. The sky is the limit for this step--you can use whatever toppings your heart desires. Some common toppings include sprinkles, chopped nuts, mini marshmallows, candies like M&Ms, and shredded coconut. Of course, whatever you have around the house is fair game--add some chocolate chips, some sliced up fruit, or some gummy bears.{largeimage|Make an Ice Cream Sundae Step 4.jpg}}
    • You could also consider crushing up your favorite candy bar and adding it to your sundae.

      Add some whipped cream on top. Spray a lovely spiral on top of your sundae and then add a maraschino cherry for the finishing touch. Enjoy!
